Kathmandu, Sept. 10: Director and writer Chhetan Gurung passed away on Tuesday midnight at Metro Hospital in Maharajgunj. He was 42.
According to sources, he was admitted to the hospital two days ago due to liver problems. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment. He had written successful films like “November Rain”, “Classic”, and “Ye Mero Hajur-3”.
He debuted as director from one of the critically acclaimed movies “Damaruko Dandibiyo”. His “Prem Geet 3”, which is one of the big budget movies, is yet be released. The release of the film has been stalled due to COVID -19.
Of late, he was busy preparing a comedy genre film “Hututu” in collaboration with producer Santosh Sen.
In “Hututu”, veteran actor Haribansha Aachrya, popular youth actors Paul Shah, Pradip Khadka and Najir Husen were acting and they were planning to take actress Samragyee RL Shah in the lead female role.
Gurung had entered the Nepali film industry from the movie “November Rain” and from his first movie he had bagged the best writer’s award.
Gurung had also received the best new director award.
In the death of one of the finest writers and directors of Nepali film industry, all artistes have expressed their deep sorrow. Veteran comedian Haribansha Acharya penned, “I am very saddened by the news about the demise of writer and director Chhetan Gurung, may his soul rest in peace.”
Director Dipendra Lama said he was shocked with the sudden death of one of the fine young men of the film industry.
Actor Pradip Khadka became emotional and penned Chhetan as a gem of the film industry and he was shocked with his sudden demise. Aakash Adhikari, director and president of Film Producers Association of Nepal, confirmed that the last rites of the Gurung would be held on Thursday morning from seven to nine at Swayambhu.
