BY JANU PANDEY, Kapilvastu, Aug. 29: The SEE Level Up examination of the students of Suddhodhan Jana Jeevan Secondary School in Kapilvastu district was delayed by one-and-a-half hours Saturday morning.

Janata Secondary School was designated as a SEE Level Up examination centre which is 20 kilometers away from Suddhodhan School.

Thirty-four students of Suddhodhan School could not reach their exam centre after the Koili River, which the students had to cross to reach the centre, was flooded because of the heavy rainfall of Friday night.

Later, personnel from the Armed Police Force crossed the river by a boat carrying the question papers and answer sheets.  Only then, the students were able to participate in the examination in a new centre one-and-a-half hours after the scheduled time.

The examination was conducted in the meeting hall of Kapil Dham, near which the students had stopped. The students were given the opportunity to take the exam by shifting the examination centre.

Surya Bahadur Sen, head of Armed Police Force No. 28 battalion,  said that a rescue team was dispatched from the Armed Police Base Camp Pipra after receiving information about the examinees stranded because of  flood in the Koili River.

Sen said that 15 people, including the head of the centre and policemen, who were assigned to the examination centre  crossed the river by boat. The examination centre was moved after it was easier to rescue the exam-conducting team than the students, he added.

People in Ward No. 9 of Banganga Municipality has been facing problems due to flood in the Koili Khola River. There is no bridge over the river.

Two years ago, three people including the head of the electricity authority Gajehda Distribution Centre died when the flooded Koili Khola swept them away.
