Kathmandu, Nov 29: CPN (UML) Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has argued that squatters’ issues should be resolved through due processes and options instead of taking forceful measures.

At a programme organized by the UML-aligned National People’s Cultural Federation at the party Central Office in Chyasal on Tuesday, Oli protested the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s move to forcefully demolish the squatters’ residence on the bank of Bagmati River near Thapathali.

Oli also asked to resolve the problems of squatters through the National Land Commission and exhibit the democratic culture of the state while ensuring relief to the poor.

On the occasion, Oli accused the government of vote rigging in the recently held general elections by the misuse of government officials.

The landless squatters residing in Bagmati Riverside had been protesting since Monday as the KMC attempted to demolish their houses without giving them alternative. On Monday afternoon, a clash ensued between the police and landless squatters as the landless squatters are asked to leave their settlement within 10 days.(RSS)
