By Sher Bahadur Sarki,Bajura, Jan. 9: All 247 schools of nine local levels of Bajura district are now taking the second terminal examination. The schools, which had begun the new academic session in May last year, had conducted the first terminal examination in June/July last year.
The second terminal examination has started since January 6. However, the examinations in several schools have been affected as the mercury has started falling in Bajura since the third week of December 2022. While two students sat in a bench in the first terminal examination in the classroom, they are now taking the exam sitting in the open playground as it is now too cold to stay inside the classrooms.
“We cannot write while we are inside the class due to shivering cold. When we stay in the sun, we can at least write without shivering,” said Binod Saud, an eighth grader at Khinnai Basic School in Triveni Municipality of the district.
Teachers and school administrations informed that the most convenient method of taking the exams in the cold winter was to let the students write basking in the sun. “We have no option but to conduct the exams as scheduled earlier without affecting the academic calendar,” said Harka Bahadur Singh, coordinator of Bajura’s Education Development and Coordination Unit.
