Nepali Eves concede defeat

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb 4: Nepal made a poor start at SAFF U-20 Women's Championship as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of host Bangladesh in the match held at Dhaka, Bangladesh on Friday.

Captain Shamsunnahar, Most Aklima Khatun and Shaheda Akter Ripa netted one goal apiece to make a winning start for host Bangladesh while Man Maya Damai scored a consolation goal for victim Nepal.

With a victory over Nepal, Bangladesh opened its account with three points and Nepal started the regional aged group championship with the loss. 

Most Aklima Khatun opened the account for the host team in the third minute of the kicked-off whistle and Bangladesh Captain Shamsunnahar doubled the tally for Bangladesh in the 13th minute.

Nepali eve Man Maya Damai cut the deficit for visitor's Nepal in the 24th minutes as she made a score-line 2-1 and Shaheda Akter Ripa of Bangladesh sealed the match for winning side in the dying minute of the match for winning side as she made a score-line 3-1 for host to make a winning start. 

Meanwhile, South Asian football powerhouse India made a winning start as they humiliated Bhutan by 12-0 in the inaugural match of the championship in the first match of the day. 

Altogether four teams will vie for the title including host Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and India. The tournament will be conducted under the round robin league format and the top two teams from the round robin league will fight for the title clash.

Nepal will take on Bhutan in their second match on Sunday and Nepal will encounter India in their third and last match of the league on Tuesday. The title clash will be held on 9th February.
