Biratnagar, Feb 5 : Province 1 Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has said the Province Communications Act is in the offing.
In his address to a programme
organised on the occasion of the 25th establishment day of the Press Chautari
Nepal here today, the Chief Minister said the draft of Act had been already
prepared. As he said, the Act aims to strengthen the rights of people concerned.
The Chief Minister echoed the need
of promoting the rights and interests of the communication sector and
formulating the Act.
He took time to say that the naming
of the Province would be finalized soon on the basis of consensus and if this
did not happen, rules and procedures would be followed for the same. According
to the Chief Minister, the Province government will not be expanded if it does
not experience an increased workload. He hoped the Province government would
find its pace soon.
On the occasion, two journalists
were awarded.
They are Dinesh Subba who won the Krishna Prasad Sigdel Memorial Award, carrying a purse of Rs 11,100 and Tejendra Bhandari who received the Janardan Mainali Memorial Award, carrying a purse of Rs 15,500.
During the programme, CPN (UML)
central member and former province minister Jeevan Ghimire spoke about the
importance of the implementation of professional ethics and values by
journalists.
Deputy-mayor of the Biratnagar Metropolis,
Shilpa Nirala, stressed that media should be free and fair as its one of the
major responsibilities was to educate the society, keeping it well-informed.
