By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, Feb 5: Trade deficit of the first six months has reduced by approximately Rs 9 billion in the Nepalgunj port in comparison to the same period of the previous fiscal year (FY).

According to the office of the Nepalgunj Customs, trade deficit of the fiscal year (FY) 2022/23 amounted to Rs 31.8 billion meanwhile the trade deficit of FY 2021/22 was recorded Rs 40.8 billion.

Dillu Prasad Sharma, an officer of Nepalgunj Customs Office, viewed that imposition of quota system in the products like sugar, wheat and implementation of compulsory provision of Letter of credit (LC) led to the reduction of imports.

Sharma said that increase in imports of petroleum product, foods, industry raw material and lower volume of export resulted in the current deficit.
