By Narad Kohar, Taulihawa, May 29: President Ramchandra Poudel has granted amnesty to 10 convicts serving jail time at the Kapilvastu prison on the occasion of the 16th Republic Day.

Manoj Saini, a jailer of the Kapilvastu Prison said that nine inmates of Kapilvastu and one from Kanchanpur have been granted amnesty.

Of the 10 convicts, 3 were doing time for vehicular homicide, two for homicide, two for robbery, and one for homicides in industry, polygamy, and possession of armed weapons.

Saini said that a list was sent to the Department of the Prison Management for the release of the convict’s jail time based on the fact that the cases were not on a negative list, had good behavior, and had already served 50 percent of the jail time.

With the release of `10 convicts, there are now a total of 499 convicts in the Kapilvastu prison.
