By Chitra Mijir,Sindhupalchok, Dec. 2: British film director and researcher Lee Jay has been honoured in Bahrabise Municipality-2 , Sindhupalchok district for his support in building a school.
He contributed to the construction of a building of Mangaladevi Janajagriti Basic School located in Durumathali in Bahrabise Municipality-2.
Bam Bahadur Tamang, the school principal, informed that the four-room building of Mangladevi Janajagriti Basic School was constructed by Lee Jay 14 years ago.
At that time, Mangaladevi Janajagriti School operated in a temporary shed as there was no proper building. Children were compelled to study in the harsh cold weather by the lake,
said Tamang.
Witnessing this situation, local leader Galjen Sherpa donated 6 annas of land for the construction
of the school.
Lee Jay, during his visit, observed the deteriorating condition of the school.
Upon seeing this, he used his funds to address the issue of insufficient land for construction and purchased a ropani of land.
Principal Tamang said that, under Lee Jay’s leadership, he built the school with support from the UK.
The film director and researcher said, “The construction was coordinated with My Small Help, Nepal.”
Additionally, Principal Tamang noted that the four-room building on the upper floor was constructed with assistance from German Funds Crisis and the National Wear
Foundation Nepal.
Upon receiving the school’s certificate of honour, Lee Jay reiterated his commitment to continue supporting the school and children's education.
Social leaders Mohan Rai and Mingmar Sherpa stated that Lee Jay came to build the school building.
One of the students, Samjhana Tamang, expressed her happiness and excitement about studying in a well-equipped school.
Currently, 89 students attend the school, travelling from Ripar, Gambudanda, Fotyang, and Sisne, spending two hours to reach the school.
