Kathmandu, Dec 2: Dr Swami Atmananda Giri of Galeshwordhan Ashram at Devghat in Chitwan district has been honoured with Bharati Kharel Award for this year.
The Award was distributed by the Bharati Kharel Pratisthan in recognition to the contribution of Giri in spiritual realm.
At a programme organized here Saturday, former Chancellor of the Nepal Academy Dr Basudev Tripathi honoured Giri with a letter of honour and cash prize Rs 51,000.
Academy's Member-Secretary Prayagraj Bhattarai shed light on the life and contributions of the feted personality at the programme organized on the 86th birth anniversary and 31st memorial day of late litterateur Bharati Kharel.
Senior gazal writer Prof Dr Sanat Kumar Wasti informed about various aspects of the contribution of late Kharel in social service and spiritual practices as well as nine published literary works of Kharel.
Kharel, who was born in 1995 BS, died in 2049 BS. In memory of late Bharati Kharel, her husband Chandrika Nanda Kharel and son Deepak Kharel among others in her family established the Pratisthan in 1990. Since its inception, the Pratisthan has awarded various seven organizations, 15 litterateurs, four social workers and give spiritual seekers. (RSS)
