By Arjun Kafle,Syangja, Sept. 19: Following the government's policy of restructuring the postal system, one post office has been established at each local level in Syangja district.

A municipal post office was inaugurated at Biruwa Bazaar of Biruwa Rural Municipality-1 on Tuesday, marking the establishment of one post office per local level in Syangja. Non-Gazetted first-class officer, Khem Thapa will lead the new post office in Biruwa.

Previously, Syangja had one district post office and 12 area post offices. With this rearrangement, three area post offices have been closed and one new office has been added. The existing area post offices in the municipalities have been converted into municipal post offices.

To ensure one post office per municipality, the Kolma Post Office in Putalibazaar Municipality, Panchamul Post Office in Andhikhola Rural Municipality and Kyakmi Post Office in Harinas Rural Municipality have been closed. In their place, a new post office has been established in Biruwa Rural Municipality, which previously lacked one.

Guru Prasad Marasini, the chief of the District Post Office, Syangja, said that with the opening of a new post office in Biruwa, every municipality in the district now has a municipal-level post office.

There are seven area post offices in other municipalities of Syangja, which have been upgraded to municipal-level post offices.

Along with the 11 municipal-level post offices, the district still has 42 additional post offices. Each additional post office has between one and three staff members, with a total of 89 employees currently working.

According to central policy, additional post offices will be closed when their employees, currently aged 58, retire, leaving the offices without staff.

The District Post Office reported that 11 additional post offices have been closed in Syangja this fiscal year.
