Government awaits details of loss to allocate budget for post-disaster recovery

Kathmandu, Oct 8: The government has decided to allocate a budget for the post-disaster by assessing losses caused by the recent flooding and landslides at the local levels.     

Unveiling today the decisions of a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung said, "The loss scale is not same, some local levels have incurred a huge loss while some experienced relatively less. The government is preparing to allocate the budget based on the assessment of damages."     

Stating that the number of local levels (41) severely affected by the disaster may increase, the Government Spokesperson said the Home Ministry is expected to provide comprehensive details of the loss to the government within a few days.     

As per the Cabinet decision, Gita Kumari Poudyal Adhikari, a member of the National Planning Commission, has been permitted to attend an event titled "Asia-Pacific Care Forum 2024: Transforming Care: Building Alliances, Empowering Women, Reshaping Economies" to be held in Bangkok of Thailand coming October 22-24.     

The Council of Ministers has decided to approve the temporary quota of 266 Gazetted positions for various projects under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.     

The Cabinet meeting has given consent for the participation of the Minister for Youth and Sports in the 'XXI International Sports Forum Russia- Country of Sports' programme to be organized in Russia on October 17-19.     

The government has also given its approval for opening additional 57 mountain peaks for climbing.     

Likewise, the Council of Ministers meeting has decided to approve the organizational setup and quota for posts of the Department of Postal Services and the bodies under it, to endorse the Telecommunications (Tenth Amendment) Regulations, 2081 and to grant approval for the participation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development in the World Urban Forum-12 to be organized in Cairo, Egypt on November 4-8.     

The Council of Ministers has also decided to give approval for the participation of the Minister for Health and Population in the 'Community Health Delivery Partnership Event During the World Health Summit-2024' to be held in Berlin, Germany on October 13.     

The Cabinet decided to approve the Share and Credit Investment Policy, 2081 and the Seeds Regulations, 2081.(RSS)
