Third NDC draft passed to disseminate positive message on commitment to climate justice

By Pragati Dhakal, Kathmandu, May 15: The government has approved the draft of Third Nationally Determined Contribution to disseminate positive message in Sagarmatha Sambaad.     

A cabinet meeting held on Wednesday endorsed the NDC draft prepared by the Ministry of Forests and Environment based on Paris Agreement under the COP-21 of party country of United Nations Framework related to Climate Change.     

According to the Ministry, the draft was approved before the event as the climate goals set by Nepal for a decade would disseminate a message in the international level that it is serious about its commitment. The government is organizing the three-day event in Kathmandu from tomorrow.     

Minister for Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi, said, "International partners, donor agencies and campaigners raising voices for climate justice will participate in Sagarmatha Sambaad, an important international conference. Disseminating the message about approval of NDC draft will increase Nepal's credibility towards its commitment to fulfill climate goals.     

He further said the Biennial Transparency Report would also be approved before Sagarmatha Sambaad. BTR is the document which is prepared by the countries in every two years as per international commitment to climate change. Information related to green gas emissions, measures of adaptation, financial support, technology transfer, capacity development and transparency of the countries are incorporated in BTR.     

Similarly, Member-Secretary of Sagarmatha Sambaad Secretariat and Chief of Climate Change Management Division under the Ministry, Dr Maheshwor Dhakal, mentioned that Sagarmatha Sambaad would focus on climate justice and the issues—sustainable development, inclusive, women, vulnerable communities incorporated in the Third NDC would make Nepal's voice strong in Sambaad.
