Rajan Rawat,Humla, May 20: Landslide victims of Til village in Limi, Namkha Rural Municipality-6 in Humla district, have been relocated to tents erected in a safer place.

After the village was found to be at a risk of landslides, the residents were moved to a safer area on the western side of the village where tents were set up to house them temporarily.

To protect locals from the threat of potential landslides, tents have been pitched in an open meadow for them to stay overnight, said Paljor Tamang, Chairperson Ward No. 6, Limi.

The area seems safe, and arrangements have been made there for the stay of all residents of Til village, he added.

During the day, they go back home for necessary works and return to sleep in the tents at night. A total of 32 people from 19 households have been provided with temporary shelter at the site.

The landslide passed very close to two houses, and the entire village remains at a risk, said Tamang.

The Sekhanglugwa stream, which flows between Til village and Kanjum Monastery, was hit by the landslide, completely washing away about 30 ropanis of land where upland paddy was planted as well as a hydropower station.

The landslide originated from Kanji Himal, above Til village, was suspected to have caused by a glacial lake outburst flood.

Similarly, an irrigation canal has also been completely damaged by the landslide. The drinking water pipeline was also affected, creating a shortage of drinking water in the village. Even in the surviving land, irrigation will be difficult.

Even though there was no rainfall, the landslide suddenly occurred at 11 pm on May 15, 2025.

As soon as the landslide struck, villagers were relocated that very night on the premises of the currently closed Himshikhar Basic School for safety.

The path connecting Til village to the monastery has also been blocked by the landslide. Security personnel from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police arrived from Hilsa and documented the damage.
