Gas cylinder blast in India: Nine Nepali dead

By Prateek Ichchhuk Sharma, Salyan, Jan 13: Nine Nepali have died in a gas cylinder explosion in Arki area of Himachal Pradesh, India.

Family sources have confirmed that all the deceased are members of two families from Takura, Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-2, Salyan district.

The incident occurred at 2 am on Monday when a gas cylinder kept in the room where they were sleeping exploded. The explosion also caused a fire, destroying the surrounding houses.
They died on the spot.

According to the ward member of Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-2, Laxmi BK, the deceased have been identified as 33-year-old Dhan Bahadur BK, 32-year-old wife Kabita BK, their 16-year-old daughter Radha BK, 10-year-old daughter Renuka BK, and 22-month-old son Rajan BK.

Likewise, in another family, 42-year-old Kashi Ram BK, his 32-year-old wife Tika BK, their 11-year-old daughter Anu BK, and their 7 year old son Kiran BK died. 

They had been living in India for about two years for employment and were working as laborers in the same area. According to local sources, a gas cylinder was kept in the room where they were staying, from where the accident is believed to have taken place.

It is reported that five bodies have been found so far and the search for the remaining bodies is ongoing.

It is reported that the formal identification process has not been completed as the bodies were scattered due to the explosion.

Local administration and security personnel are continuing rescue and investigation work at the scene.

Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality Ward No. 2 is in mourning after nine people from the same village died at the same time.

An atmosphere of mourning has prevailed throughout the village, and relatives and neighbors are shocked.

Ward Chair Mekraj Budhathoki expressed deep sorrow over the incident and informed that a ward condolence meeting will be organized on Tuesday.
He also said that it has been decided to grant mourning leave to relevant government offices, including ward offices.

He said that it is a very sad and painful incident that villagers who had gone abroad with dreams of finding employment and raising a family lost their lives so prematurely.
