Sagarmatha–Lumbini Climate Initiative 2026 launched in Solukhumbu

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 19: Lumbini World Peace Forum (LWPF) officially launched the Sagarmatha–Lumbini Climate Initiative 2026 at Pattale, Solukhumbu, in conjunction with the observance of World Snow Day.

The launch marks the commencement of a year-long series of climate action programs focused on environmental cleanup, tree plantation, and community awareness, implemented in close collaboration with Nechasalyan Rural Municipality.

The launch program held on Sunday was chaired by Dhanjan Rai, Program Chairman and representative of Nechasalyan Rural Municipality. The event was attended by the Vice-Chair of the Rural Municipality, Bina Rai, along with ward chairpersons and local representatives, reflecting strong leadership engagement and institutional commitment at the local level.

Founder and President of LWPF, Basu Gautam, was also present at the program as part of LWPF’s ongoing “1 Million Trees Plantation and Conservation Initiative,” which has been actively implemented since 2019. His presence underscored LWPF’s long-term commitment to grassroots climate action and environmental stewardship, read a press note issued by LWPF.

During the program, LWPF announced its plan to plant 8,848 saplings across Solukhumbu District during the 2026–2027 period. This effort will be complemented by structured community awareness and engagement initiatives aimed at strengthening climate resilience, promoting environmental conservation, and advancing sustainable development.

LWPF expressed its sincere appreciation to Sun Nepal Life Insurance Company Limited and Om Megashree Pharmaceutical Limited for their valuable support and partnership in advancing climate action initiatives in the region.
