By Our Correspondent Humla, May 18: The Food Management and Trading Company Ltd (FMTC) has been transporting food items to different local levels of Humla district through tuin, traditional wire bridges used to cross river.

According to the officials at FMTC, Humla, the lack of bridge over the Karnali River has led them to transport foods into Chankheli Rural Municipality and Sarkegard Rural Municipality.

“The tuin over the Karnali River in Salisalla area is used to transport the food items,” said Krishna Prasad Acharya, Humla-based FMTC’s chief. Acharya added, “The food items are transported to Salisalla of Karnali Corridor from Nepalgunj and Surkhet via roadways before using tuins to cross the food items over the Karnali River.”

Simrik Air, which has been awarded the contract to transport food items into Humla, had constructed the tuin in Salisalla for the purpose.

Eight individuals have also been employed to transport the goods through the tuin.

The food items transported from the tuin is then carried to the warehouse of FMTC nearby a helipad constructed in Salisalla.

The food is then transported via helicopter to different parts of the local levels in Humla. “Since the air transport stopped carrying goods by airways, the tuin was constructed. It has at least mitigated chances of food scarcity in the district,” said Acharya.
