Vote count updates pouring in

By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, May 18: Results of the local level election are pouring in from across the country. 

According to our Dhankuta correspondent, Chintan Tamang and Bhima Devi Khanal of CPN-UML have been elected as chairman and deputy chair in Dhankuta Municipality of Dhankuta respectively. 

Tamang defeated Nepali Congress candidate Dinesh Rai by 14 votes. Tamang garnered 7,666 votes against Rai’s 7,652 votes.

 Khanal received 7,196 votes. Her closest rival Ganesh Bahadur Bista of CPN (Maoist Centre) got 6,629 votes.

Likewise, in Pakhribas Municipality, NC's candidate Gyan Bahaur Gurung was elected mayor. However, CPN-UML’s Namrata Deuja won the post of the deputy mayor.

 Gurung garnered 5,498 votes against 5,053 votes of Bhim Bahadur Rai of CPN-UML. Deuja won with 5,062 votes while Prakash Niraula of CPN (Maoist Centre) got 4,641 votes. 

Likewise, NC's Chhatra Bahadur Subba won the post of chairman with 4,359 votes in Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality of the district. His competitor Sher Bahadur Limbu of CPN-UML got 4,164 votes. Gita Khewa of CPN (Maoist Centre) won the post of deputy chair with 4,357 votes leaving behind Goma Karki of CPN-UML (3,691 votes).

In Mahalaxmi Municipality, Dhurba Raj Rai of NC has been elected chairman. He secured 5,662 votes while his closet rival Deepak Budhathoki of CPN-UML got 4,483 votes. The post of deputy chair went to Manju Adhikari of the CPN-UML, who got 4,739 votes. Her closet rival  was CPN (Maoist Centre)'s Prem Khadka (4,369 votes).

Similarly, Jitendra Rumdali Rai of Nepali Congress was elected chairman in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality with 5,399 votes. Muna Rai of the CPN (UML) won for the post of vice-chairperson. 

In Chatharjorpati Rural Municipality of Dhankuta, Nepali Congress candidate Chatra Subba has been elected chairman with 4,359. His rival Sher Bahadur Limbu got 4164 votes. Likewise, Gita Khewa of CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected deputy chair with 4387 votes.

Meanwhile, Maoist Centre candidate Nishant Sharma won the election of chairperson of Chisankhugadhi Rural Municipality. Sharma won the election with 3,198 votes whereas his rival candidate Asok Thapa of CPN (UML) got 2691 votes.

Likewise, Santosh Babu Thapa of Nepali Congress won vice-chairperson in the rural municipality.

In Dhanusha, NC's candidate Raj Kumar Sah has been elected chairman of Dhanuji Rural Municipality. He garnered 2,262 votes. His closest rival Jibendra Jha of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party got 2,163 votes. NC's Rawati Devi was elected deputy chair with 2,430 votes. Her closest rival Rajita Devi Mandal of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party received 1,901 votes.

CPN-UML and NC secured the post of chairman and deputy-chairman in Bandipur Rural Municipality of Tanahun respectively. 

According to Our Tanahun correspondent, Dadhiraj Subedi of the CPN-UML has been elected mayor of Bhimad Municipality by defeating Kajiman Shrestha of the ruling alliance CPN (Unified Socialist) 

Subedi garnered 8,128 votes whie Shrestha got 5,857 votes. Likewise,  Sharada Khanal of the CPN-UML won the post of deputy mayor with 7,667 votes. Her closest rival Milan Ale of NC garnered 7,205 votes.
