Landslide buries mother and daughter, flooded stream sweeps away septuagenarian

By Raju Lamichhane, Rukumpaschim, Aug 28: A landslide that occurred due to incessant rainfall has buried a woman and her daughter to death at Pipalchaur in Aathbiskot Municipality.

The mother and the daughter were taking a shelter at a building of the community forest when the landslide buried them.

They were on the way back from their maternal home.

The police have fortunately rescued a girl, another daughter of the woman, 12-year old Tirshana Rana, alive.

The dead are identified as Balmati Rana, 30, of Maidi in Bheri Municipality of Jajarkot district and her 2-year old daughter, Pratikshya.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of the Rukumpaschim district Parmananda Ghimire informed that Tirshana has been taken to hospital for treatment as she was injured in the incident.Meanwhile, Dalbir Gurung, 70, of Sanibheri Rural Municipality has gone missing after being swept away by the flooded Deuta stream, according to Rajiv Shrestha, information office and police inspector at the district police office of Rukumpaschim.
