Embankment work expedited

By Our Correspondent,Damak, Feb. 5: Embankment of the risk-prone areas like Ratuwa and Mawa Khola of Damak Municipality and other risky areas of Kamal Rural Municipality, Gauradaha Municipality of Jhapa and Urlabari Municipality of Morang has been intensified. 

The embankment work is being done in the places from 200 metres to 700 metres where the risk area has been identified. The work is being carried out through the People's Embankment Programme in assistance with Asian Development Bank in an area of ​​11.5 kilometres in various risk areas of Ratuwa and Mawa Khola. 

Earlier, complaints were made that the embankment process had not begun even after a year had passed since the contract was signed.

HZMC-Mainachuli-Roshan Joint Venture was entrusted with the task of embankment on June, 2021. Madan Adhikari, director of the construction company, said that they had proceeded embankment of the risky areas at a cost of Rs. 704.6 million. He said that they had a target to complete 60 to 80 per cent of the total work within this Fiscal Year. Stating that two kilometres stretch work was completed, he said that four kilometres work was in full swing.

Although it was a little late to start the work, it had been speeded up by employing maximum workers and would be completed in time, he said. The company still has a year remaining to complete the work.

The embankment is being done in a modern way and a gravel road would be constructed above it. It has been informed that the concept of green belt had been included in the project. 

According to the head of People's Embankment Office, Jhapa, Yadav Baral, the embankment of risky areas picked full swing only after the election. Stating that about 25 per cent of the work was being carried out at the present, he said that he was hopeful that the work would be completed within the stipulated time.
