The offset solar fencing, constructed by the National Trust for Nature Conservation in coordination with the Division Forest Office of Jhapa, has been handed over to the forest groups of the respective municipalities.
In a programme chaired by Bishwanath Baral, Chief of the District Coordination Committee of Jhapa, with Member of Federal Parliament Rajendra Prasad Lingden as the chief guest, solar fences built within their respective areas were handed over to forest groups in Mechi Nagar, Bhadrapur, Haldibari, Kechankawal, and Barhadashi municipalities, which are affected by elephants.
During the programme, representatives of the concerned groups raised questions regarding the technical responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the solar fence, despite their commitment to actively protect it.
Federal MP and former Deputy Prime Minister Lingden said that the human-elephant conflict mitigation campaign would be successful in coordination with the forest groups, local governments and federal governments.
