Drink adequate water to be safe from heat wave, says Doctor

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, April 24: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged to be vigilant as the temperature is surging in the Terai belts of the country.

There is a possibility of a heat wave from April 22 to April 26. 

The department has urged to be aware that there will be extreme heat in the coming five days in some areas of the Terai belts of Lumbini, Madhesh Province and on valleys and gorges of the hills. There is a high possibility of a heat wave when the temperature surges. 

Consultant Physician Dr Dhurba Gaire said that symptoms such as headache, vomiting and fainting are observed because of a heat wave. Along with this, symptoms like weakness, increased thirst, leg cramps, dizziness, fainting, aches and vomiting are observed. 

Children, the elderly and people with chronic diseases are mostly affected by heat waves. 

He suggested to go see the doctor if the symptoms are observed.  

He said, “ If symptoms such as increased heart rate, difficulty in breathing, low blood pressure, dizziness, extreme headache and sweating, fever, are observed, then one needs to visit a doctor immediately.” 

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has advised to not go out in the extreme heat in the afternoon, to use an umbrella, use a cloth to cover the head, wear cool clothes, drink plenty of water, bathe with cold water, work in the field in daylight and evening when the sun is down, drink lemon water, coconut water, juice of fruits, and cucumber, and eat the freshly made homemade food.
