By Our Correspondent,Siddharthnagar, Apr. 29: Gorkhapatra journalist Kapil Gyawali has been presented with the Best Journalism Award-2079.

Gyawali was honoured on the occasion of the 12th convention of the Federation of Nepal Journalists (FNJ), Rupandehi, on Saturday. 

Established by the FNJ, Rupandehi, the award carries a purse of Rs. 50,000. 

Bipul Pokharel, Central President of FNJ, Sabitra Devi Aryal, Deputy Mayor of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, Bhawani Prasad Pandey, FNJ Central Member, Ram Raj Pokharel, President of FNJ, Rupandehi, Yanendra GC, Coordinator of Journalism Award Selection and Evaluation Committee, Mitramani Khanal, Chief Administrative Officer of  Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City,  among others, honoured Gyawali with the cash prize. 

Gyawali is a Rupandehi-based correspondent of this daily. 

Gyawali, who has been working as a journalist in Rupandehi for nearly two decades, is also associated with Buddha Community Television and Nagarik Online.

Speaking on the occasion, FNJ president Bipul Pokharel said that the government never wanted to carry the issues of journalists and he recalled that lawmakers did not speak on the agenda of journalists even in the parliament.

Deputy Mayor Aryal said that journalists should practice journalism based on facts. 

Bal Krishna Basnet, President of Press Council Nepal, urged journalists to work to instill the feeling of hope among the people. 

Binod Pariyar, secretary of FNJ, said that the FNJ has been presenting the Best Journalism Award to one journalist every year. 

Meanwhile, Journalist Nisha Rai has been recognised with the prestigious Dharan Sports Forum Media Award 2024 for her outstanding contributions to sports journalism. The award was presented during a programme held in Dharan on Saturday.

The Dharan Sports Forum initiated the 'Dharan Sports Forum Media Award 2024' to acknowledge media professionals who have made significant contributions to the field of sports journalism. 

Dhan Bahadur Rai, Ward Chairman of Dharan Ward No. 8, bestowed the honour upon journalist 

Rai is a  Dharan-based correspondent of this daily.
