Finance Minister Pun, UN Assistant Secretary-General Kanni meet

Kathmandu, May 2: Visiting UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Kanni Wignaraja and Finance Minister Barshaman Pun held a meeting at the Ministry of Finance in Singhadurbar on Thursday.     

The UN Assistant Secretary-General had arrived in Nepal to attend the meeting of UN resident coordinators from 35 countries of the Asia Pacific region.     

During the meeting, the UN Assistant Secretary-General said the UNDP is working in Nepal's rural areas' health care, education and poverty alleviation sectors and added that the programme of the Global Green Climate Fund would be implemented in Nepal, while pointing out that Nepal has suffered hugely due to the climate change impacts.     

On the occasion, Minister Pun expressed pleasure for the agreement between the UNDP and ICIMOD to work in the areas of climate change.     

Likewise, he appreciated the Nepal-UNDP cooperation in the areas of Nepal's socioeconomic development. (RSS)
