Refugee Dambar Bahadur awaits treatment of his face

By Our Correspondent,Urlabari, May 4: The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) verified the refugees living in Nepal's Pathari Shanishchare and Damak when a few refugees, including Dambar Bahadur Rana were out of the camp looking for a job.

At the time, the refugee camp did not have access to information and communication like today. Therefore, the name of 46-year-old Dambar Bahadur Rana was not included in the refugee verification list when he was not present in the camp.

Like Rana’s,  names of 1,004 refugees have gone missing from the list, and they are still living as refugees in Damak in Jhapa and Pathari Shanishchare in Morang.

Everyone has different pains to share as a refugee. Dambar Bahadur rarely leaves his house these days as small hard lumps have developed everywhere on his face.

Rana, who is living in hut number 68 (B1) camp of Pathari Shanishchare-10, is suffering from the loss of his family members on the one hand, and he is suffering from a lack of treatment for his lumpy face on the other. He has neither a refugee card nor a Nepali citizenship certificate.

Even though he is capable enough to earn money on his own, Dambar Bahadur cannot go out to work only  because of his face. He said, "After leaving the refugee camp, the brothers are out of touch.”

Rana is now living with his wife and a daughter, who are managing their livelihood on the usual expenses sent by their sisters.

At first, small blisters appeared on Dambar's face. Gradually those blisters grew. Now, not only his face but also his whole body is full of lumps.

According to him, he visited many hospitals for treatment. However, due to the lack of medical expenses, he is living with the disease. He said that the doctor said that the treatment could be possible in a good hospital.

“But I have no money to visit the good hospital,” he said.
