By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May10: The budget session of the Federal Parliament is set to commence today, marking the start of the annual session for both the Houses.

Following the prorogation of the winter session three weeks ago, President Ramchandra Paudel has issued a summons for a new session, scheduled to begin today, May 10, as recommended by the government, according to the President’s Office.

The joint session of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly will convene at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, commencing at 2 PM on Friday.

In preparation for the House of Representatives meeting, Speaker Devraj Ghimire met with parliamentary party leaders on Wednesday to ensure smooth functioning, avoiding the challenges faced in the previous session.

The winter session of parliament was prorogued on April 14 amidst demands from the opposition Nepali Congress to constitute a parliamentary committee to investigate Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in a case of cooperatives fraud.

The initiation of the budget session is in accordance with Article 93, Clause (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, as President Ramchandra Paudel exercises his constitutional authority to convene the parliament.
