By Our Correspondent Humla, June 3: People in Humla have faced difficulty in travelling after the road from Nara to Hilsa along the Hilsa-Simkot

road section of Karnali corridor has been damaged by the avalanches in 25 places.

Due to heavy snowfall in winter last year, roads in the Himalayan district were extremely hit by avalanches.

Ishwor Lama, a residence of Namkha Rural Municipality-5, said that the avalanches had massively damaged the roads this year. The pedestrians have suffered a lot as the roads in 25 different places were hit by the avalanches, he added.

He further said that the pedestrians are forced to travel by using canes and crawling through the roads as the snow accumulated on the roads has not melted yet.

In a joint cooperation of the pedestrians and Armed Police Force of Humla, the blocked roads of Nara area were cleared on May 8. Police Inspector Pappu Yadab of Armed Police Force No. 44 battalion said that the condition of the roads were critical due to the avalanche.

He said that it would take time to clear the snow and maintain the damaged roads. Stating that the area lies at an altitude of 4000 metres, he said that the pedestrians had to risk their life while passing through the roads.

Vehicular movement has come to a complete halt after the avalanches hit the area in November and December last year.

Earlier, Namkha Rural Municipality and Hilsa Road Project had maintained the roads but this time, maintenance work has not begun yet.
