Minister Sharma urges foreign investors to invest in IT sector

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Mar 29: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has urged foreign investors to invest in the Information Technology sector of Nepal.  

Inaugurating the 10th General Assembly of the Nepal-Italy Chamber of Commerce on Friday, Minister Sharma said that there is a favourable environment to invest in the sector of information technology of Nepal.

Minister Sharma, said, “We have opened the investment in IT by acknowledging it as basic need and national priority. We have put forward the investment-friendly policy to make a favourable environment for foreign investment in areas other than areas related to the security of citizens and data of nation, and national sovereignty.” 

She said that to create an investment environment, the government has removed the limit on foreign investment in the IT sector and the necessary procedures such as registration and revenue have been done online, she said that IT companies can be established with lower investment than in other countries and has availability of the skilled IT manpower. 

She said, “Even though there is not any ascertained data by the government, it is believed that more than one lakh skilled manpower in the IT sector are exporting skills and services in many foreign countries by staying in Nepal. I especially urge investors to invest in It sectors as there is favorable environment in IT owing to investment-friendly policy and laws, availability of skilled manpower, in the country.” 

Mentioning that the government is preparing for the fourth investment Summit that is being scheduled for April 28-29 in Nepal, Minister Sharma requested the Nepal-Italy Chamber of Commerce to organize programs to attract Italian investors. 

She said that the government believes that this institution will play a significant role in creating an investment growth environment by attracting more and more Italian investors.
