Kathmandu, April 6: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has said the country cannot achieve progress without the development of the industrial sector.

At a session on Industry, Trade and Infrastructure in an interactive programme of the ongoing 'Birgunjko Bani', the Industry Minister said that the industrial sector in the country has not developed as expected.

On the occasion, he said the industrial sector's development is marred due to COVID-19, economic slowdown and other reasons; so the government is preparing to move ahead by taking new policy to revive the sick industries.

Similarly, Bhandari shared that the government is working to amend some laws ahead of the upcoming Third Investment Summit meant to end legal and other procedural hassles faced by the industrialists and business community in Nepal.

Stating that country's economy was import-oriented, Minister Bhandari added the factories should be run from the domestic raw materials if possible.

Meanwhile, at a separate programme in the Capital City on Saturday, Minister Bhandari stressed the need for the consumption of domestic goods.

Inaugurating the second general convention of National Enterprise Development Facilitator Federation-Nepal, he claimed that the government has accorded priority for the production of domestic goods and vowed to provide subsidy to the domestic industries for the production of goods.

Emphasizing the marketing of Nepali goods in the international market, Minister Bhandari said coordination between all three layers of government was needed for this task. (RSS)
